WHO’S AFRAID OF A LITTLE RED?

Find this endlessly interesting.

Why are people so afraid of red lipstick? I find this to be a very persistently answerless question. Red lipsticks do not bite, contrary to popular belief. All they do, is brighten up your complexion and make your eyes sparkle. What’s more, it is such a bold color that you simply have no choice but to command attention. It gives you a lifting jolt of confidence. That is all it does.

Okay, there are semantics. You have to make sure the shade of red is suitable to your skin coloring. And then after that, there are the many different types and textures that you can choose. Do you want a lip-gloss or just a lip stain? Maybe you want matte not shiny? Alright, maybe these things will complicate it a little bit, but it’s still not rocket-science is it?

I can bet you, yes bet you, that every year, there will be a beauty trend headline that read RED LIPS RULED THE RUNWAYS or something to that effect. In fact, look at the runways of Proenza Schouler spring 2009.

Come on, it’s late 2009. Soon it’ll be 2010. Go ahead, wear it. At the end of the day it’s just a color and it’s one that’s guaranteed to make you feel good. Why be afraid?
