Captivating Helena
The legendary little black dress may well have become a legend but only a few designers who have been able to capture the characteristic and essence of the black color like Helena Horstedt does.
The intensity within the garments that she brought in her collection (No. 2, No. 3, The Black Whole and Broken Shadow), flawless execution, intricate techniques and thoughtful materials she chose to compliment her design brilliantly.
In today’s fashion who hasn’t heard Acne, Cheap Monday or H&M. Those names are coming from the Scandinavian fashion scene; Swedish. No, we are not going to talk about the collaboration between Comme Des Garcons and H&M or how many pairs of Acne that I am craving for. We are going to talk about the labor of love that Miss Horstedt shows in her collection.
Helena Horstedt is a talented young fashion designer based in Stockholm, Sweden. She is famous for her ability to manifest a plain black garment into a fascinating dress, emphasising on advanced details, classic tailoring, intricating structures and techniques. Her collection is a fascinating visual experience and an endless aesthetic delight.
She began her career as a fashion designer in 2004, after graduated from Fashion Program of Beckmans School of Design and established her own label, Helena Horstedt. Since then she has received various award i.e. Eye Catch of the Year at ELLE Awards show in Stockholm 2007, Max Factor Award 2008 and scholarship Young Craftsmen of SEK 100,000 by Bengt Julin’s Fund/Friends of the National Museum. After launching the “Broken Shadow” as her autumn/winter 2008 collection, she already jumps to her next project, a costume design for Gothenburg Opera Ballet and her following collection.
To Horsedt fashion is a way to express herself, like an asylum of her thoughts, rules and values. She shows us how she met her own values. Her collection is only available in her studio in Stockholm, Sweden and exclusively made to measure. She also mentioned that her inspiration come from something she have gone through or heading for, basically it’s all about mood and feeling.
Without a doubt, this extraordinary talent is a major force to be reckoned with and it is only a matter of time that she will captivate the heart of fashion industry.
